- A movie whose title could accidentally double as a commentary on its own dullness, Douglas Sirk's Shockproof relates the story of a paroled murderer named Jenny Marsh (Patricia Knight) and the parole officer, Griff Marat (Cornel Wilde), who loved her. If that already sounds a little icky, imagine how much worse it gets when Griff hires Jenny to live at his house and take care of his blind mother (Esther Minciotti). At first, Jenny has some understandable reservations about this situtation, particularly since she may still be in love with a grifter named Wesson (John Baragrey), but eventually she comes around, falls for Griff, and plugs a hole in Wesson just for good measure. While Knight is surprisingly good considering her relative obscurity (apparently her career tanked after she divorced Wilde in real life), the rest of the movie is a pretty unremarkable story that perhaps helps to explain the high rates of criminal recidivism.
